We have had a great experience renting with Bruce Jay. They have been friendly and approachable in all interactions-. Their staff has been supportive, timely and proactive in matters of maintenance and we have had great rapport with their vendors. After nearly 6 years of renting a beautiful Victorian in Mid City, we rest at ease having found a home we love.

In the brief time interacted with Bruce Jay Associates, I experienced what I can only sum up as unprofessionalism. It all began when I, along with my two co-tenants, had shown interest in one of their properties. They invited me to an open house, which we soon attended. It seemed like the perfect fit for us so we put in our applications immediately. This is where everything went downhill. After submitting our applications ($150 for three tenants, while going standard is $105), I immediately called the realtor to let them know we had submitted. However, I was met with radio silence. I left a voicemail and let a day pass. With no word, I called again, another voicemail wanting to check and make sure our applications went through okay. More silence. Getting worried our $150 application fees went into the void, I used the contact form on their website to no avail. So I called a third time with still no response. I found the realtor's email via their website and emailed them directly, PURELY wanting to know if our applications went through. Nothing. Finally, I got the idea to text the number that had invited us to the open house. Within a couple hours, I got a text back that was short and with no apology for the four-day delay in communication, saying that our apps were received and being reviewed. From there on… more radio silence. In fact, I haven't heard from them since! About one and a half weeks after our confirmation our application was received, the listing was removed from the market. They leased the property and didn't even bother reaching out to PAYING applicants to tell them. I won't accept that this as normal realtor practice because simultaneously I've been dealing with 10+ other realtors who all showed me an enormous respect for my time. For comparison, most realtors I dealt with during my search contacted me immediately to let me know my application was received. When a property was leased out, they immediately let me know, many times even before I had submitted an application and had only toured. Now, one could think maybe we were just bad applicants that didn’t deserve bare minimum communication after throwing $150 into the fire and flames. But the thing is? We're literally perfect tenants. Three working professionals with 0 negative marks on our background checks, 760+ credit scores, and income that is 4x the rent asking. There's no excuse except that we were never being seriously considered the moment we gave them our $150. As I know, our application was never even looked at or in the running from the start— which either way, would have been nice to know. Take my review for what you will, but I own property out of state and I would never employ a realty company that treated their applicants like this. If a mere prospective tenant can't reach them on a weekday, how will you? EDIT: While I appreciate the reply by the company, I'd just like to make it explicitly clear that the issue was not that we didn't get the property we applied to, but that after submitting our expensive application fees. They were never heard from again. It was only after me repeatedly reaching out, simply to see if our application was even received, that they finally confirmed it was -- after which, Bruce Jay Associates never contacted us again in any form. And, no, I was never told the property was competitive, or even given the courtesy of being told that property had been leased to someone else. We simply had moved on at that point.

Extremely evil. Don’t use them. They actively harass tenants and fail at collecting rent. 12-8-23 Edited to respond to their response: You know that my statements are 100% true. Bruce Jay Associates is my landlord’s management company and they are currently harassing me in myriad, idiotic ways, one of which is to lock me out of my payment portal account and openly reject my rent payment for December. I can’t figure out why they’re doing this - it will only deny them and the landlord money from a legal, ongoing, paid-in-full tenant. Landlords and homeowners, please avoid Bruce Jay at all costs.
